It has been almost a year since updating this. I wonder when the next time that I update this again would be.  I'm sure no one really uses xanga that much anymore but oh well!  There are many pictures that I should have uploaded from my different travels but I have not had the time for any uploading.  I thought that I might as well upload at least one picture as I am re-formatting my SF card.  Nothing too much has changed...  My place is still not fully furnished but one major event is to the left.  Is something big for me. Finally solo'd on ZSP! Pilots I talk to at work say that nothing else compares to the first solo. We will see!

Off to Dubai tomorrow. Staying in the Burj Dubai district.  I am excited to experience something that is different culturally and socially for what I am used to.  Hopefully I will make good use of my lovely D40!

I had to get my passport expedited for this trip as the trip was kind of sudden.  I lined up at Sinclair Centre from 5:30, and would you image that there already was a line-up of more then 80 people?  Talks of paying bums off to line-up for you became quite understandable.

When I filled up today at 117.9, I was ecstatic as the past several days, the pumps had displayed 121.9.  Should I have gone to the pump 3 months ago and saw the same prices, my jaw would have undoubtedly been to the floor.  In highschool I read a book called Nineteen Eighty-four by George Orwell.  In the book, when someone is exposed to something for so long, they become not only desensitized to it, but it becomes normal and factual.  At that time, I had not understood why people would so blatantly believe that Oceania was at war with Eurasia, when days before, they were at war with Eastasia.  Although the brainwashing that occurred is different from our real daily lives, who knew that a trip to the gas station would put a different spin on a book read years ago?

"Hi, I'm calling from CKNW News 1130 to talk to clock stores about day light savings...".  On Saturday, I filled in a shift at the clock store about ground school and got a call from a news reporter for News 1130.  I answered a few of his questions about all the clocks that I have to change in the store and about customers that call or bring clocks and watches into the store to get me to help them with the changing of the time. Apparently my interview clip was on high rotation this morning as a mall employee came into the store around 1pm and said that he had heard it 3 or 4 times already. I hope that this proves to be great advertising for our store, and that more people will come down to Lansdowne to buy our wonderful clocks!

A couple of weeks ago, we headed down to California to help with a training session for a new low-cost start-up airline, based out of San Francisco.  Although I did not have as much time to myself as I would have liked, I still had a brilliant time as it was my first time in California.  As the hotel was right by SFO, it was neat watching two planes land on parallel runways.  The whole concept of parallel runways was a new one to me as I had thought that wake vortexes would have made it impossible... but I guess planes of equal size will not affect each other too much.

A picture of the dyke by our hotel.  In the far distance, you will be able to see a tiny figure of a person fishing.

The steepness in some of the hills were amazing.  No wonder everyone is quite fit here!

The "cheer" in "holiday cheer" seems to be replaced by "crunch" for most people.  The mood from the stressed out irate drivers and shoppers are spilling into the work place.  Over-indulgence in food as well as too many parties are making everyone tired it seems.  And to think that it is only the beginning of the holidays... The festivities are yet to begin for all of us.  Merry Christmas everyone and have a safe holiday!!

Some few points to mention:

  • The conference was a wonderful experience including some firsts such as taking a water taxi or eating frois gras. Yum!
  • The famflight was awesome!
  • The wedding was beautiful!
  • I will be 25 soon!

  • When I looked out of my rear view mirror on my way home from work, I just had to grab my camera.

Everyone seems to be riding their bikes in Amsterdam. There are bicycles everywhere. This is only 1/300 of the amount of bikes parked infront of Fietsenstalling Station.
